BDI MONTHLY UPDATES

What's New in June 2025

It's a busy month at BDI!

American Diabetes Association’s 85th Scientific Sessions (Chicago, IL)

June 20 – 23: It will be a busy time for BDI staff at the American Diabetes Association’s 85th Scientific Sessions (Chicago, IL). Exciting new study results to be presented, new projects to be discussed, and old friends to see.

June 21: At the Abbott Diabetes Care booth, Dr. Guzman, BDI Director of Clinical Education, will be moderating the panel discussion, Above the Bias.

June 22: Dr. Polonsky, BDI President, will be speaking on Tell Me Why—Using CGM to Drive Changes in Diabetes Self-Care. He also serves a co-author on six poster presentations on that day:

· Demographic and Clinical Characteristics Associated with Real-World Persistence on Semaglutide for Weight Management in the USA

· How CGM Use Affects Diabetes-Related Attitudes and Behaviors in People with T2D—A Qualitative Investigation

· Treatment Experience of People with Type 2 Diabetes Using Once-Weekly Efsitora in QWINT Phase 3 Trials—A Qualitative Study

· Observed Glycemic and Psychosocial Benefits in the Prospective Bigfoot Unity Real-World Study (BURST)—A Twelve-Month Analysis

· Patient-Reported Outcomes with Use of Inhaled Technosphere Insulin (TI)

· Stability and Impact of Diabetes Distress among Adults with Type 1 Diabetes over Time

June 23: Dr. Fisher, BDI Research Director, will present Reducing Diabetes Distress Leads to Positive Glycemic Change—Results from the EMBARK Trial

In this month’s episode of BDI Briefs, we review a recently published study that examines innovative behavioral interventions, delivered via text messages, designed to improve medication refill adherence. As you will see, we suggest that the negative results of the study highlight the need to focus on people’s feelings and attitudes about their prescribed medications, not just on their behavior. Join Dr. Guzman (BDI Director) of Clinical Education, Dr. Polonsky (BDI President), and Scott Johnson (famed diabetes blogger and a dear BDI friend) for this stimulating discussion.

Study recruitment is almost completed for BDI’s new research project which is investigating an innovative diabetes education program. However, we still have room for a few more people with type 2 diabetes. This opportunity might be right for you if you are ready to get on track with your diabetes, were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes less than 10 years ago, live anywhere in the U.S. and your last A1C was 7.0% or higher.

The study is examining how innovative new approaches to diabetes education might help to improve glucose outcomes and quality of life. Participants will be randomly assigned to take part in one of two different live, online, group education programs. Each group program will be lively and informative, and will meet once weekly for 5 weeks in a row. Also, half of the participants will receive a continuous glucose monitor and free testing supplies. If you are at all interested, don’t delay!
